Srajan Shiksha Foundation

Srajan Shiksha Foundation (SSF) was set up as a Private Limited Company in 2012, with the aim of building and delivering sustainable educational models in underprivileged areas. The focus of SSF Pvt. Ltd. is on developing and delivering quality curriculum, assessment and training in the field of Primary and Secondary education. It provides customized trainings and also organizes and conducts surveys in this area.

From 2012-2016, SSF has also implemented the Vodafone (Learn out of the box) project for Private School children of grades 6 and 7 in Delhi. It was also running 21 Learning Centers in Delhi for Pratham Education Foundation. It was responsible for the training, supervision and management of Pratham Urban Learning Centers in Delhi till 2015. It also has partnerships with organizations such as ARK Foundation, Jubilant Technologies and ASER. Apart from Program Implementation Srajan Shiksha Foundation Pvt. Ltd has conducted Trainings and Capacity building workshops for various children-based education organizations. The key areas of training have been:

h. Science Workshops

We also customize trainings according to the felt need of the organizations.
Apart from trainings the other activities that Srajan undertakes are:
• Survey and Assessments including database creation and data entry
• Content and TLM creation
Over the years SSF has under taken various assessment and survey projects. The details of the following are as follows:

1. Household survey conducted with 1300 children in the communities of East Delhi that was funded by ARK India (Absolute Return for kids) for its ENABLE program, a School access voucher program. It was a longitudinal study, so the children were tracked for 5 continuous years.

2. As a follow up of the ENABLE program, ARK UK did an impact evaluation study in the sixth year .The study was headed by Mr. Lee Crawford.

3. Assessed 264 MCD Schools of SDMC for ARK’s School Quality Assurance (SQA) Program which is a kind of 360 degree school evaluation program.

4. A need assessment baseline and an end line survey of about 1400 children in 70 Government and Private Schools of Delhi that was funded by STiR Education.

5. A research study by Prof. Jim Berry titled, “Pricing of Private Education Services in Urban India”, funded by Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL), South Asia which involved tracking and retesting of about 5400 children including an extensive household survey of their parents in low income neighborhoods of Delhi.

6. As a part of the research by the ASER (Annual Status of Education Report) Centre, Children’s Reading and Numeracy skills assessment survey were carried out in the low income communities of East Delhi of about 1600 children aged 6 to 14 years.

7. Atleast 8 community based Need assessment surveys were conducted by Arshi Naaz and JD Sonu in Delhi, in her individual capacity and association with Pratham Delhi Education Initiative (PDEI) across 3 zones of Delhi namely North Shahdra, South Shahdra, and Karol bagh.

8. Conducted household surveys of about 1200 households across Delhi for D. Vijay Kumar (an IAS officer) (D.Phil student, Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford) on Evaluating the impact of expanded school choice introduced under India’s Right to Education Act on outcomes of children from disadvantaged backgrounds through child-tracking of RTE Section 12(1)(c) students in Delhi.

9. Gray Matters India, an educational assessment company that makes education child-centric by providing learning diagnosis and monitoring growth in learning over time, at a student, class, school and system level.SSF is conducting baseline and End line assessments in Delhi for the last 2 years in MCD Schools for its various clients. Till now we would have done assessments in more than 10, 000 children in about 250 schools.

10. Conducted a telephonic study of 2000 children and 700 Parents across 3 states of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh and for Pratham Books designed by Phicus Social Solutions for their project named “Missed Call Do, Kahanai Suno”(Give a missed call and listen to the story).These 2000 children and 700 parents were reached after calling about 10,000 callers.

11. Conducted an impact study for IIMACT’s Girl education program in the stated of 13 learning centers of Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

12. Conducted an Early Years survey of about 1000 households of 2 blocks of Nand Nagri community for Pratham Education Foundation.

Our Directors

Arshi Naaz

A Science graduate and Bachelors in Education (B. Ed.), Arshi Naaz obtained her Masters in Library Science. She joined Pratham in 2003. Over these years her work profile has included heading the Library Program in schools and communities of Delhi, leading the zone and heading the CAT (Curriculum, Assessment, and Training) team. Apart from this, she is also a trainer for various capacity building programs of Pratham and conducts Early Childhood Education workshops in NIPCCD, Story Telling and Library related workshops. She is also a member of the Book Selection Committee for children of “DELHI PUBLIC LIBRARY” and has co-authored children’s storybook “My Family” for Pratham Books.

Currently, she is the founder-director of Srajan Shiksha Foundation Pvt. Ltd.

Jajaluddin (J.D.Sonu)

Jajaluddin (J.D. Sonu) is a seasoned professional with a robust academic background, holding degrees in Social Work, Education (B.Ed.), and Legislative Law (LL.B.), along with a Master’s in Public Administration. Since joining Pratham in 2000, he has undertaken various significant roles, including heading school and community programs in Delhi, leading zonal initiatives, and spearheading the Urban ASER team in Delhi as well as rural ASER efforts in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

In addition to his work with Pratham, Jajaluddin (J.D. Sonu) serves as the President of Protsahan, a community-based organization he helped establish in 2000. Through Protsahan, he initiated a Women’s Literacy program in an East Delhi ward and collaborated with the Adult Literacy Department of Jamia Millia University. He also holds the position of Vice President at Pratigya, another organization dedicated to social causes.
Currently, He is the Founder and Director of Srajan Shiksha Foundation Pvt. Ltd. and the Program Director of Pratham Delhi Education Initiative.

Samyukta

A Psychology graduate from Delhi’s Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Samyukta Subramanian received her Masters in Psychology from Delhi University, with a specialization in Clinical Psychology. Having worked briefly in the mental health sector, Samyukta’s relationship with Pratham began as a volunteer. She later joined Pratham as a full-time functionary and has been leading its different programs in Delhi since then. Some of her roles have included coordinating the Teach India Campaign for Pratham, English content development and training, head of East Delhi programs etc. Apart from this, she was also faculty, trainer and facilitator for the different capacity building initiatives undertaken by Pratham at the national level.
